Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (July 7, 2014) — Local Niagara-on-the-Lake charitable organizations once again benefited from the proceeds raised through the Shaw Festival’s Town Previews Program. Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell and Executive Director Elaine Calder hosted a cheque presentation on Friday, July 4, 2014 in The Shaw’s Festival Theatre Lobby.
Due to the success of The Philadelphia Story town preview performances, The Shaw was able to provide funding to every organization that applied for assistance this year. The following Niagara-on-the-Lake organizations received support:
•Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Safety (Policing) Committee, $100: support of annual programming including Child ID, Block Parent and Neighbourhood Watch programs.
•Canadian Cancer Society, Niagara-on-the-Lake, $250: sponsorship of annual fundraising tournament.
•Niagara-on-the-Lake Nyanyas Group, $250: “Grandmothers to Grandmothers” campaign.
•Niagara-on-the-Lake Soccer Club, $350: support for 2014 club activities.
•The Gallery Players of Niagara, $400: support for the production of the 2014 Christmas concert in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
•Niagara Jazz Festival, $500: support of Niagara-on-the-Lake summer activities.
•Niagara Pumphouse Visual Art Centre, $500: assistance with the costs of new Gallery Manager office renovations.
•Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library, $500: support for annual Children’s Summer Reading Club.
•The Friends of Fort George, $500: assistance with expenses relating to Polo Niagara event.
•Red Roof Retreat, $500: support of the 5th Annual Croquet at Riverbend fundraising event.
•Upper Canada Lodge, $500: assistance with costs associated with social activities of benefit to residents.
•Theatre Beyond Words, $500: assistance with development/implementation of online marketing for new theatre work in graphic novels.
•Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Palliative Care, $750: assistance to offset expenses involved in volunteer training and educational workshops.
•Niagara Historical Society & Museum, $1,000: support for summer children’s program “Kid Curators”.
•The Royal Canadian Legion, $1,000: support for the first stage of King Street facility renovation project.
The Shaw Festival thanks all those who attended a town preview of The Philadelphia Story and for their support of this annual fundraising initiative that benefits the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The Town Preview Program offers Niagara-on-the-Lake residents the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to designated preview performances. Proceeds raised are distributed to various Niagara-on-the-Lake charitable organizations who apply for funding.
