Alison Lawrence and Mary Francis Moore, co-producers of the mcguffin company, are proud to announce the premiere of Lawrence’s new play, The Thing Between Us, directed by Convergence Theatre’s Dora-nominated director Aaron Willis (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea; YICHUD(Seclusion); Passion Play) and stars three of Canadian alternative theatre’s brightest female stars: Randi Helmers , Emily Hurson and mcguffin company co-producer and Dora nominee Mary Francis Moore. The topnotch creative team includes production designer Joe Pagnan (Polly Polly; Gruesome Playground Injuries) and multiple Dora-winning sound designer John Gzowski.
The Thing Between Us is a brutal, funny, engaging and ultimately moving exploration of the relationship between two women over a lifetime. Little Linda Small’s world is thrown into chaos when her parents’ goddaughter, Shannon, comes to live with them. Shannon twists her way into her world and her life and as they grow older, they are more and more inextricably entwined. What binds us together when it isn’t love? What is love? And what is The Thing Between Us?
The mcguffin company’s last production was the wildly popular comedy The Catering Queen. The Thing Between Us continues the company’s mission to produce work featuring women of all ages, with an emphasis on the actor and the writer.
