Three retired opera singers living in a retirement home for the arts begrudgingly welcome a new arrival and then plan to sing a quartet from Rigoletto for Verdi’s birthday. Striving for vitality whilst accepting mortality.

Cast:
Cecily Robson: A buxom lady. Starting to forget things. “Her face is still that of a child. Unlined and innocent. And her smile lights up the darkest room.”
Reginald Paget: A serious man. Always dresses immaculately. “kind and gentle and unassertive.”
Wilfred Bond: A joker. Always thinking about sex. “vulgar and crude, […] the intellect of a tse tse fly, but […] a giver of life and that’s a lovely thing.”
Jean Horton: A frail woman. A Grande Dame. “ never think[s], […] never draw[s] breath, […] just bulldoze[s] over other people’s feelings.”
Please prepare a short [less than two minutes] monologue. You may also be asked to read from the play. Excerpts will be available for actors to read at the audition. You should read the play before auditioning. Please bring a resume and headshot - a photocopy will do. The script is on reserve at the Performing Arts Desk, 5th floor, Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street.
Auditions will be held at the Village Playhouse, 2190 Bloor Street West
