Toronto, ON – Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) today announced programing updates for the 2014.15 season. The previously announced Angus Drive, a new work being written by Andrew Templeton, scheduled to be on stage at the TPM Mainspace from November 20 to December 14, 2014, will not be presented as part of TPM’s 2014.15 season.
“Due to some unexpected changes to the development schedule for Angus Drive, we – myself, playwright Andrew Templeton and director Alan Dilworth – have jointly decided to defer this project to a later date,” said Andy McKim, Artistic Director, Theatre Passe Muraille. “We continue to be excited by the possibilities of this artistic collaboration. TPM prides itself on taking risks on new work we believe in and we think this collaboration will be worth waiting for.“
Theatre Passe Muraille will now be producing The De Chardin Project, by Adam Seybold, a Dora Award winner for Outstanding New Play in the Independent Theatre category. The multi-award-winning team from Angus Drive will be involved in this production - featuring Maev Beaty and Cyrus Lane, and directed by Alan Dilworth. The De Chardin Project will be in the TPM Mainspace from November 20 to December 14, 2014.
Condemned and exiled, Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin crossed continents searching for the missing link. His groundbreaking discoveries in human evolution transcended barriers between Faith and Science.
“I am struck by the play’s, and Teilhard De Chardin’s own, need to reach beyond the known, into the infinite limitless unknown. This to me, philosophically and creatively, is the most challenging and fecund place to create from,” said director Alan Dilworth. “I could not be more excited to see where the encounter between our extraordinary creative team, this beautiful play, and our audiences will take us.”
The De Chardin Project is about Jesuit priest, scientist and philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955). De Chardin, suffering a cerebral hemorrhage finds himself beyond the phenomenal world in an encounter with an enigmatic guide who leads him on the ultimate adventure: the excavation of himself.
“Play development at TPM also encompasses plays that have already been produced. We are committed to giving creators the chance to revisit their work so that they can continue to fine-tune it. We also want to extend the life of successful works so that they can find new audiences. In the instance of The De Chardin Project, I am excited that Adam Seybold will have the opportunity to re-visit his very fine piece of writing in a new production of his work,” said Andy McKim. “The play was originally produced in our Backspace, by our friends at Quickening Theatre two years ago. This brand new Theatre Passe Muraille production will be in the Mainspace and it will showcase to a wider audience what a remarkable play this is.”
