Toronto Cold Reads (TCR) is a weekly reading series featuring new scripts written by local playwrights and screenwrighters, and read by professional actors in front of an audience – for the first time. This season, we return to our weekly format, but in a brand new location. The Social Capital Theatre (located above the Black Swan Tavern) is a fantastic space located minutes from Broadview Subway station, and we are thrilled to call it home. Join us every Sunday night for a bit of liquid courage before diving in to four new scenes freshly penned by some of Toronto's best writers, and read by our fantastic community of actors.
Toronto Cold Reads is a community for committed artists to take risks in a supportive and professional environment. All are welcome! It provides a resource for:
-Writers to have the opportunity to hear their work read out loud for further development;
-Performers to have the opportunity to participate in new work from the ground up and exercise their acting muscles; and
-Audience members contribute to the development of a theatrical, film or television piece while enjoying a PWYC evening of entertainment.
“We want to nurture new work and provide an environment useful to writers in various stages of development. Over the years we've had the pleasure of witnessing several plays in their journey from conception to production. The support from artists for other artists has also contributed strengthening our community and we are very much looking forward to continuing this adventure in our new home.”
