Come participate in STAF’s transformation and share your thoughts of what the new STAF can provide to help Toronto’s evolving indie theatre ecology. Over the past two decades, STAF has built its reputation assisting indie theatre artists with their administrative needs. The motivation for this transformation is in reaction to the evolution within the indie theatre industry:
“This current wave of artists runs lean operations that are often project-based. Without a subscriber base, they make work they hope will connect with new and frequently younger and more diverse audiences. They require a specific set of tools for a set period of time, without being saddled with the demands of a large organizational structure.” says Executive Director Michael Wheeler. He adds “By adapting to meet these needs, STAF can play a key role in a sustainable indie sector driven by self-producing artists.”
The OPEN SOURCE BRAINSTORM session will give indie artists a chance to engage with and inspire new steps in STAF’s transformation (read more here). More than an invitation to hear pre-determined courses of action, this will give participants a chance to air their ideas, concerns, brilliant brainwaves and actual experiences as working artists.
“As an indie theatre artist running an organization dedicated to improving the capacity of independent theatre artists, it is my hope we can make this shift in a manner consistent with open source philosophies: We hope to maintain a high degree of transparency, seek collaboration and feedback, and make the results of our work available to the community.”
