Toronto, ON –Tuesday January 20th In its third season, Sterling has produced more than 27 plays, including original Canadian work, has welcomed some of Canada’s finest actors to the stage, with multiple guest directors,
musicians and artists. Now housed at The Theatre Machine: ‘Parkdale's premier underground performance venue and home of The Unit 102 Actors Co and Sterling’-BlogTo
Becky Shaw was originally commissioned by Actors Theatre of Louisville, it had its world premiere at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in February 2008 and finds its Toronto premiere at The Theatre Machine February 20th 2015. 'Gina Gionfriddo’s comedy of bad manners, a tangled tale of love, sex and ethics
among a quartet of men and women in their 30s, is as engrossing as it is ferociously funny, like a big box of fireworks fizzing and crackling across the stage from its first moments to its last.'-New York Times
Having quickly established himself in the Toronto independent theatre community over the past two years Sterling’s newly appointed co-artistic director, Kyle Labine will direct this ‘Blithely cynical and devastatingly funny’ play (quote: Variety). Labine is known for being the sweet Davey Keith on Canadian classic Road to Avonlea, having worked in the TV/film industry for over 25 years starring in cult classics like Goosebumps-Monster Blood, Freddy vs Jason, Halloween Resurrection and Samurai Girl. For Sterling, Labine built the old theatre from the ground-up and directed the critically acclaimed Specter and Jane Ford’s The Foursome.
An exciting cast joins Labine for this production: Michael Eisner, Jessie Award Winner and Gemini Award Nominated Best Leading Actor, Graduate of Canadian Film Centre, most recently nominated best actor 2014 for Red Bill (‘the strongest male performance of the festival…Eisner's enthralling performance is easy to admire’ -*My Entertainment World), will be Andrew. Dawna Joy Wightman award winning playwright and actor known for The Hush Baby and Life as a
Pomegranate will be Susan (‘Wightman packs a mean acting punch’ Huffington Post). Shanda Bezic, known for her work in David Ferry’s Inside, also a winner for Critic’s Pick Fringe for Humanzoo’s Normal, will be Suzanna. Mike Tanchuk, recently starring in ROTC’s critically acclaimed Human Furniture and in Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, will be Max. Nola Martin recently in Unit102 Actors Co’s Julius Caesar, Phyro-Giants and Closer will be Becky (‘Preening and seductive, Martin mesmerizes in the role.’ - Now Magazine, The Lover).
