The hit and hilarious one person show Cancer Can’t Dance Like This starring Daniel Stolfi returns for a final one night performance on Friday, January 30th at The Great Hall Theatre (1087 Queen Street West @ Dovercourt Road). Cancer Can’t Dance Like This first premiered 5 years ago to rave reviews after Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Non-Hodgkin’s T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Now 5 years cancer free, Daniel has performed his hilarious one person show across Canada and New York City and has not only raised cancer awareness, but has donated in excess of $75,000 for Cancer Research from his 39 performances. Cancer Can’t Dance Like This has been lauded for its comedic approach to tackling cancer and in 2011, Daniel won a Canadian Comedy Award for Best One Person Show.
In 2008, Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Non-Hodgkin’s T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a form of cancer that would require aggressive chemotherapy over the following two years of his life. Just when Daniel’s acting career was taking off, he put it all on hold to embark on the most physically, mentally, and emotionally draining journey of his life. While battling cancer, Daniel lost his hair, his appetite and strength. However, most tragic of all, Daniel lost his ability and desire to dance, so he decided to do something about it and Cancer Can’t Dance Like This was ‘born.’
With comedy at its core, Daniel’s one person show uses larger than life characters (10 Characters) to vividly portray his experience with cancer. Told mercilessly with a thrill and lust for the finer things in life, Cancer Can’t Dance Like This recalls the pain Daniel endured during his treatment while embracing his own saving grace – comedy.
“It is the 5th anniversary of the show and like cancer, after 5 years and 39 wonderful performances, I’m ready to put them both behind me with one final show,” remarks Daniel Stolfi.
Cancer Can’t Dance Like This is directed and produced by Andrew Ferguson (Drafted, The Amazing Gayl Pile) and produced by actress/producer Jennifer De Lucia (12 Monkeys, Mr D). Tickets are $30 and are available at www.cancercantdancelikethis.brownpapertickets.com
