Should women abandon religion?
It's a question that jumps off the page and stirs up a number of reactions - "should women abandon religion?" Issues around women and religion seem to be everywhere in the news these days and Diane Flacks' new play Unholy explores all sides of the debate.
Unholy is about the complex intersection of religion and misogyny, and the conflict between ideology and personal morality. Set in a fictional live, public debate on the topic of women and religion, four female panellists (a Feminist Muslim lawyer, an Orthodox Jewish spiritual leader, an excommunicated nun and a lesbian atheist pundit) form two sides of the debate. This provocative and hilarious battle of wits is sure to leave the audience discussing the issues long after the show is done.
This workshop production of Unholy is directed by Kelly Thornton and stars Patricia Hamilton, Melee Hutton, Niki Landau, Bahareh Yaraghi, and Blair Williams.
Tickets are $23.00 (HST included), and are available at nightwoodtheatre.net or the Buddies in Bad Times box office: 416-975-8555.
