BUSTED!: When all else fails, a sense of humour will get you home. Catherine Silverglen’s one-woman show is a spirited romp that takes you on a journey from the quaint life of an “out” urban lesbian mother to the frightening fairytale landscape of a cancer diagnosis and finally her whirlwind transformation to healthy survivor and activist. Silverglen whisks you away to the land of “Awwws” with humour and grace!
CATHERINE SILVERGLEN: Award winning singer, teacher, mother, actor and writer; Catherine Silverglen was one of the founding 'mothers' and Co-Artistic Director of the Toronto feminist theatre collective: A Company of Sirens. She was also a performer and Board Member with Toronto’s Nightwood Theatre Company. Catherine produced an album of songs in celebration of the labour movement for the United Steelworkers of America - a commissioned work marking the new millennium. On Hamilton stages, Catherine has performed at The Dofasco Centre For The Arts in Theatre Aquarius' production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, in the first Hamilton Fringe Festival's Snapshot, in Half the Sky's production of Random Acts, and most recently in Dundas Little Theatre’s production of August Osage County.
After a breast cancer diagnosis, Catherine first wrote, produced and performed her one woman show Busted! in 2005. For a decade her show has received rave reviews from audiences, critics and sister cancer conquerors. Other upcoming projects in development are a new film with award winning Director, Igor Rados, and a new musical with her daughter, Keira Silverglen. Catherine won acting awards for her role in Déjà Vu at both the Barcelona Short Film Festival and The New York Film Festival of Shorts. Catherine's own film, Stretching Normal, on which she was writer, producer and actor, won first prize at the First Annual Madness Film Festival in Toronto for its sensitive and light-hearted portrayal of people living with mental health issues.
