TORONTO – timeshare, a new arts collective, is proud to announce their inaugural production: the world premiere of Rob Kempson’s new play SHANNON 10:40.
A part of the final curated season at Videofag, SHANNON 10:40 will open on October 29 and play until November 8 at Videofag’s intimate Kensington Market venue.
Shannon is mad. Mr. Fisher is in trouble. And more people see the video every day.
SHANNON 10:40 is about finding one’s place in the world, making a statement, and dealing with the consequences. It’s a dance around power and authority in an archaic public school system. It's about standing out from the crowd, and asking to be understood. There are no easy answers, and no easy outs.
"I'm excited to premiere this work in the current climate--parents fighting over the sex-ed curriculum, teachers in conflict with school boards, and the government trying to smooth it all over without doing much,” said Kempson. “There's a big shift happening culturally, and I think the education system is desperately trying to catch up. It's an exciting time to be a queer student, and a queer educator, but it's also a scary time to be both.”
Written and directed by Dora-nominee Rob Kempson (The Way Back To Thursday, #legacy), this production features acclaimed actor Hallie Seline (52 PICK-UP) and Dora Award-winner Qasim Khan (Beneath The Banyan Tree, Craigslist Cantata). SHANNON 10:40 deals with a dildo in a classroom, the student who brings it in, and the teacher who is just trying to do his best.
Added Kempson, “for me, as a queer artist and educator, this is a contemplation on the depth of interactions that can happen in a school community--an investigation of the many factors at play between students and teachers on a daily basis."
SHANNON 10:40 is a part of Kempson’s series, The Graduation Plays, the second of which, Mockingbird, will be produced at the Next Stage Theatre Festival in January 2016.

About timeshare
timeshare is very specifically an un-company. We are an artist collective, seeking to support one another in the creation, development, and production of new work. We don’t believe in defining ourselves by the kind of work that we make, who it is for, or how often it is made. Our work is about discovery and the creation of opportunity. If we always know the end result, then why bother to make the work? Rather, we provide an infrastructure for individuals, groups, projects, and collaborators to hang their work on—in order for it to find the opportunity it requires (whether that be in creation, development, production, or something in between). You might think of this group as the arts equivalent of the Centre for Social Innovation—accessing a shared economy to do more together. SHANNON 10:40 is the inaugural production for timeshare.
