Stage Door News
2015. Salem, Massachusetts. A group of high school girls meet for a sleepover. Hazel’s birthday party starts off innocently enough: underage drinking, a game of truth or dare, and some playful banter. But when a Ouija board is given as a gift, the spirit of Abigail Williams, the instigator of the Salem Witch Trials, is released. Girl is pitted against girl, witch against witch, and the coven is tested.
Pure Carbon returns with this immersive theatre experience that sets out to blur genres and walk the line between horror, laughs, drama and fun. Originally developed as part of Pure Carbon's Experiment Series, the show was devised collectively using inspirations as diverse as Arthur Miller's The Crucible, the film Mean Girls, and TV show American Horror Story. After a sold out two day workshop in March 2015, the show has been revised and expanded for the current production.
The show features a dynamic ensemble of women, including Annelise Hawrylak (Beauty and the Geek at SolarStage). Laurel Brady (surfacing at the Paprika Festival), Thalia Kane (The Good Story at SummerWorks) and Amanda Cordner (web series The Village Green). Directed by Pure Carbon's co-artistic directors Alex Kentris and Katy Murphy, whose past works have included the physical theatre double bill La Loca/Red Winter and The House of Bernadette Alba.
