Hamilton, ON, October 7, 2015 – Actor Jamie Farr has been in show business for nearly sixty years, and is enjoying another new “first” this month at Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius. Best known for playing Max Klinger in the beloved TV show M*A*S*H*, Farr has a long and varied resume, including TV, film and extensive work on stages around North America, but this October Mr. Farr will originate a stage role for the first time in his distinguished career, and he creates the role of Jack in the World Première of Marcia Kash and Douglas E, Hughes’ comedy Jack of Diamonds.
The story of a group of retirees who find themselves suddenly penniless when they fall prey to a Ponzi scheme, Jack of Diamonds takes on an air of madcap misadventure as the victims find their swindler suddenly incarcerated in their midst. The play is written by one of Canada’s most successful playwriting teams, Marcia Kash and Douglas E. Hughes, who have struck comedic gold with their previous plays A Party to Murder, Too Many Cooks and their best known work Who’s Under Where?, which has been produced more than 100 times around the world.
Mr. Farr is well known to Theatre Aquarius audiences, who flocked to his first appearance in 2010’s Tuesdays with Morrie. Fans may have set out to see a celebrity, but they found instead a talented and thoughtful theatre actor, and one worth enjoying again and again, as evidenced by the great success of his return in 2013’s The Last Romance. The two shows are the top-selling non-musicals in Theatre Aquarius history, and with a delightful script and an exceptionally talented supporting cast, it seems likely that Jack of Diamonds will outstrip them both.
Jack of Diamonds stars Jamie Farr with Valerie Boyle, Catherine Fitch, Neil Foster, Derek McGrath, Mary Long and Wendy Thatcher. The design team is comprised of Ivan Brozic (Sets and Costumes), Louise Guinand (Lights), and Anna-Maria Steger (Sound). Josephine Ho is the Stage Manager and Kimberly Brown is the Assistant Stage Manager.
Jack of Diamonds will run until from October 28 – November 14, 2015. Tickets range from $75 - $25. Official opening Night is October 30, 2015 at 8pm. Tickets may be ordered online at www.theatreaquarius.org or by calling the box office at 905.522.7529 (toll free 1.800.465.7529), or in person at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts, 190 King William Street, Hamilton.
