One of the most successful Canadian plays of all time, 2 Pianos 4 Hands has been delighting audiences for 20 years, performing to nearly 2 million people in over 4000 performances in 200 cities around the world. After travelling the world, this Canadian classic comes to London’s Grand Theatre to celebrate its 20th anniversary. With its impeccable comic timing and virtuosic playing that stretches from classical to pops to jazz, this Canadian classic is a warm and funny musical entertainment about two lifetime obsessions with 88 piano keys.
Celebrating 20 years, 2P4H sees the return of Richard Greenblatt as director with a brand new duo in this never before seen full-scale special anniversary engagement on the MainStage. Greenblatt has received numerous nominations for his work on this production and several others, and has won seven Dora Awards and two Chalmers Awards.
With a playlist that includes everything from Bach to Billy Joel, 2 Pianos 4 Hands is a semi-autobiographical play about two gifted boys who pine for concert pianist stardom. As years of sacrifice and learning the art of playing the piano unfold on stage, Ted and Richard come to the sobering realization that becoming the next Glenn Gould or Vladimir Horowitz may be beyond their reach. It’s a story of childhood dreams, parents yearning for their children’s success, and a few life lessons learned along the way.
Since its premiere at the Tarragon Theatre in 1996, 2 Pianos 4 Hands (2P4H), has been performed in several countries, including Canada, the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Austria, and Finland, earning it a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production and a Chalmers Award for Playwriting.
