As you may know, Nightwood is bringing Nirbhaya to the Toronto stage from November 18-29 at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre. This astonishing piece of theatre showcases not only the genius of director Yaël Farber but it also brings to the fore one of the most urgent issues of our time: ending violence against women.
Nirbhaya
Written and Directed by Yaël Farber
Based on the performers' real life experiences
An Assembly, Riverside Studios and Poorna Jagannathan Production
Presented by Nightwood Theatre in association with Amnesty International
Called "powerful and incredibly moving" (The Independant), Nirbhaya is inspired by the true events that occurred on the night of December 16th, 2012 when a young woman and her male friend boarded a bus in urban Delhi heading for home.
Written and directed by the internationally-acclaimed Yaël Farber, with an extraordinary cast and creative team from India, Nirbhaya (Hindi for "Fearless") is a tapestry of personal testimonies, which tears away the shame that silences survivors of sexual violence.
Recently named Critics' Pick by the New York Times, Nirbhaya is an unforgettable work that moves and inspires audiences with the sheer capacity of the human spirit to rise, bear witness, survive and turn the tide.
