Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts presents An Evening of Wonders with Vitaly Beckman on Wednesday December 30 at 7:00 p.m.
It’s tough being a magician these days. When audiences think they’ve seen everything, simply pulling a rabbit out of a hat isn’t going to thrill anyone anymore. And nobody knows this better than Vitaly, the young illusionist and magician who has made it a personal challenge to reintroduce awe and wonderment to those who have forgotten what it feels like to be amazed.
Every illusion in Vitaly’s performance is original and represents an ‘impossible dream’ that he has set out to accomplish. From making drawings and paintings come to life to teleporting playing cards from one audience member to another, Vitaly’s illusions defy logic and belief. According to a rave review published at the Romhany Report magician’s blog, a large part of Vitaly’s appeal is that he never comes off ‘as a know it all magician, but somebody who sees wonderment in the world, and turns it into magic’, causing even the most jaded illusionists to declare his show as containing ‘some of the most incredible and impossible magic ever witnessed.’ (Romhany Report November 2011) As a keen observer of human behaviour, Vitaly knows that his show offers far more than magic. It goes beyond illusion to encompass ‘the realization of our dreams and the celebration of the human spirit. With the belief that we are only limited by our own imagination, the audience gets to experience the sensation that nothing is impossible’ to get a glimpse of how life could be ‘if there were no limitations.’
Never one to rest on his laurels, An Evening of Wonders features many completely new routines and illusions. Vitaly is willing to risk arrest and imprisonment for identity theft on every stop of his upcoming tour by promising that he will channel his powers to make the photo from your driver’s license disappear. So, if you're brave enough to surrender your ID to him, you will have to expect the unexpected. What if when he made the photo come back, it wasn't a picture of you, but of Marilyn Monroe or George Clooney? Is it magic or trickery? The only way to be sure is to catch one of Vitaly’s increasingly popular performances before all of the tickets have disappeared into thin air.
An Evening of Wonders stars Vitaly Beckman, an accomplished stage illusionist was has performed Internationally in theatres, at corporate and charity events, and on TV and radio. Born in Belarus, he grew up in the Middle East, where he began practicing magic at the age of fifteen. He has lived in Vancouver since 2008.
