With every passing season, Etobicoke Musical Productions plants theatrical seeds that grow and give shape to innovative shows, keeping the spirit of live entertainment alive and well in our community. With no season is that more true than their 2015 playbill. Rounding out a transformative year in 2014, which started out with a phenomenally successful spring concert cabaret, “Spring into Song”, EMP capped it off with a completely sold out run of “Les Misérables”. As the first community theatre group in the entire GTA to be granted these exclusive production rights, EMP gave shape to the story like true musical professionals resulting in an eight-show, sold out run at The Meadowvale Theatre this past fall. This type of intensely passionate theatre has EMP members and its audience taking notice. Most members, after appearing on stage with EMP, are eager to return for the next run.
To begin this year’s season, EMP is at it again, producing a more intimate cabaret concert, “Winter’s on the Wing”. Showing off immensely talented local performers with hand picked numbers and personalized harmonic arrangements, this concert promises to deliver the range of styles and dynamic content that you would expect from a group with such a range of shows under their belt.
“What’s so great about creating a show like this with EMP is having the freedom to combine unique styles to customize a cabaret that is truly built out of the talents at hand” says Director Allison Beula, who with Music Director Mark Peterson, chose the show’s content and tailored it to the cast’s strengths. “It’s always fun to be able to work with the singers to help them choose material that is perfectly suited to them,” says Peterson. “From there, we’re able to put forth the right content to make the group as a whole really shine.”
“Winter’s on the Wing” is a tribute to some of musical theatre’s best songs, taking the audience on a journey through the seasons with songs that truly transport. It’s a blend of musical theatre’s most memorable moments with hits from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Fiddler on the Roof, Secret Garden, Grease and Cabaret, the mix will surely satisfy. From the group that does it best, this concert should not be missed. Coming up next is “Ragtime”, presented at The Meadowvale Theatre this fall 2015.
For the second year running at the Assembly Hall, Lakeshore and Kipling, 2015’s “Winter’s on the Wing” plays February 27, 28, March 6 and 7 at 8 PM, plus matinee shows at 2 PM on March 1 and 8th. Tickets are $24 and available online or via their telephone box office at 416-248-0410.
