Executive Director Kelly Straughan, Board President Sara Peel and Alan Kay from the Glasgow Group will announce the Toronto Fringe’s three year strategic plan on March 26th, 2015. The plan, which began in August 2014, was formed with contributions from community roundtables, stakeholder discussions, and a Fringe town hall. It will be instrumental in shaping the future of Fringe and positions us to make informed projections about environmental realities, helping us to anticipate and identify key issues facing the arts sector.
Fringe is an organization which fosters the creation, production and presentation of art. We give artists creative freedom with their work, enabling them to showcase fresh and innovative ideas to the public. We give audiences productions which are affordable and accessible, inspiring them to bring creativity into their everyday lives. In an ever-changing arts environment, we develop tools such as the strategic plan, enabling us to do this for another 27 years and more!
We outlined five main goals that we feel are most pertinent to the Fringe; inclusiveness, leadership, responsiveness, diversity and innovation. No organization exists in a static environment and the Fringe is not an exception. We use our main goals as pillars to help guide us and make informed decisions; For example, where are we going to relocate our Fringe Club to in 2017? The plan has helped us gain a comprehensive grasp of external opportunities and challenges. The announcement on March 26th will include:
· Plans to Increase the Fringe’s visibility throughout the GTA
· Our hopes for the new Fringe Club in 2017
· How we will further engage the Toronto arts community through value-added programming
· How implementing our five main goals will improve all levels of the organization
· Our new vision and revamp of our FWYC (Fund What You Can ) website
Christopher Charlesworth and Asier Ania of HiveWire will speak to the new look and functionality of FWYC- Fringe’s Crowdfunding Platform. FWYC, which launched in March 2014, is a fundraising resource for indie artists from any discipline who are looking to generate revenue for their artistic projects. Since its launch, the site has raised over $277,000 for indie artists through the creation and management of their own crowdfunding campaigns at www.fwyc.ca and continues to raise money on a daily basis.
