JACK MEDLEY 1928 - 2015 Jack Medley, Actor, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2015. A greatly respected member of the Shaw Acting Ensemble, Jack had been a resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake for over a quarter of a century. He was born in Barnsley, West Riding, the son of James and Beatrice (nee Clay) Medley, brother of Harry, Marjoirie and Mary and uncle to Jayne, Melanie, Timothy, Jeremy, Dominic, Nicholas, Julian and Slade. Like several other successful British actors such as Tony Van Bridge, Douglas Campbell & Bernard Behrens, Jack emigrated to Canada in the late 50's.
He was a founding member of the acting company at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax, appeared in several films and TV dramas and became a welcome addition to any cast in the major theatres across Canada. He achieved momentary and not altogether welcome fame across the world when he was inadvertently but actually stabbed while playing Julius Caesar at Stratford.
He subsequently returned to The Shaw Festival to play many beautifully conceived parts in plays ranging from 'Cyrano de Bergerac' to 'You Never Can Tell'. Perhaps most fondly remembered was his old servant, "Jaikes", in 'The Silver King'. Jack Medley was a superb farceur and just as he knew how to make a memorable exit on the stage, so in real life he made a most elegant and peaceful last appearance. He will be missed by all who knew him.
