“Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come to life.....”
This hilariously dark musical is based on the 1980 hit movie starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Set in the late 1970s, the story revolves around the friendship of three office workers fed up with looking up through the glass ceiling of the Rolodex era corporate world.
Pushed to their boiling point, Violet, Judy and Doralee concoct a plan to get even with Franklin Hart Jr., their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss. While Hart becomes "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
Featuring the high energy song styling of country music legend, Dolly Parton (9 to 5, Backwoods Barbie, Heart to Hart, and the female empowerment anthem, Get Out and Stay Out) the 18 member cast of 9 to 5: The Musical will have you laughing and cheering the ladies on.
And we know you will be singing along to the title song!
Scarborough Music Theatre (SMT) has been bringing Broadway-style performances to the community for over 50 years and is a proud member of Theatre Scarborough. First known as Scarborough Light Opera, the group began performing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in the early years. Now, SMT has a reputation of presenting traditional musical theatre favourites such as Guys & Dolls, The Wizard of Oz and The King & I, alongside contemporary musicals like Spamalot, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Full Monty.
