Native Earth Performing Arts’ annual Weesageechak Begins to Dance Festival is devoted to developing and showcasing new works by Indigenous artists.
The 28th annual Weesageechak Begins to Dance Festival, November 9 – 22, 2015, is a celebration of new works and works in development. Native Earth selects dance, theatre and inter-disciplinary works reflecting Indigenous performing arts in Canada and internationally. We encourage performing artists of all disciplines and at any stage in their career to apply. Applications are due April 15, 2015.
Curated by a selection committee, each selected piece receives dramaturgical/directorial support, rehearsal time and a public showing. Please note that while the focus and content of the work is not limited, in order for a submission to be considered the primary artist or artists must identify as Indigenous.
Please contact Jessica Lea Fleming, Artistic Associate, with questions regarding your project or application: jessica@nativeearth.ca
