Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (April 17, 2015) — The Shaw’s production of Sweet Charity, the Tony Award® -winning musical, begins previews today at the Festival Theatre. Directed by Morris Panych, Sweet Charity electrifies the stage with the sounds of New York in the late 1960s with unforgettable musical numbers like “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.”
Unlucky in love, but ever-hopeful dancer-for-hire, Charity Hope Valentine (Julie Martell) wears her heart on her sleeve. Working at the Fandango Ballroom with friends Nickie (Kimberley Rampersad) and Helene (Melanie Phillipson), Charity unwaveringly believes she’ll find love and a life of domestic bliss. When she meets the meek, but sweet, Oscar Lindquist (Kyle Blair), she believes she’s finally found “The One.”
Featuring a powerhouse cast of the Shaw Ensemble, Sweet Charity also includes Jeremy Carver-James, Jacqueline Thair, Jay Turvey and Mark Uhre. Sweet Charity includes musical direction by Paul Sportelli, choreography by Parker Esse, set design by Ken MacDonald, costume design by Charlotte Dean, lighting design by Bonnie Beecher, projection design by Cameron Davis and sound design by John Lott.
Sweet Charity is on stage at the Festival Theatre (10 Queen’s Parade, Niagara-on-the-Lake) from April 17 to October 31 (Opening May 16).
