May 20, 2015 (Toronto, ON) – Get in line Hitchcock fans. From the makers of the hit show ShakesBeer, comes the Toronto premiere of John Buchan’s comedic thriller The 39 Steps. Seen by over three million people in 39 countries, The 39 Steps will debut alongside cocktails from some of the finest mixologists in town, elevating the hilarity with a bit of sauciness. Hitchcock, comedy and booze—what could possibly go wrong?
Featuring lightning-fast changes, impressive dexterity and hilarious timing, the play quickly develops into comedic mayhem as four actors are charged with playing 130 roles in 100 minutes through a series of Hitchcockian hijinks. The 39 Steps follows lead detective Richard Hannay as he encounters gruesome murders, tricky secret agents and multiple romantic entanglements.
The play, which had its West End premiere in 2006 and transferred to Broadway in 2008, is the winner of two Tony Awards and the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. It continues to play in London at the Criterion Theatre, and reopened this spring in New York City at the Union Square Theatre.
The 39 Steps opens for its professional premiere on Friday, May 29th, at Rear Window Theatre (back of Lower Ossington Theatre). Go to www.the39steps.ca to get your tickets and join in the fun!
