OTTAWA (Canada) – May 21, 2015 – The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala presented by Enbridge on May 30 at the National Arts Centre will be hosted by the internationally acclaimed actor Colm Feore and feature prominent Canadian artists paying tribute to the laureates.
You never know what will happen at this Gala. Past editions have featured many surprise performances by outstanding artists such as Pete Townshend, The Tragically Hip and Blue Rodeo.
This year’s special guests include singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans; mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta; actors Tom McCamus and Eric Peterson; actor and artistic director Guy Migneault; actress Marie-Hélène Fontaine; pianist and composer Alain Lefèvre, indie rock band Half Moon Run and actress Danielle Proulx.
They will be paying tribute to this year’s GGPAA lifetime achievement award recipients Walter Boudreau (composer, conductor and artistic director); Atom Egoyan (film and stage director, visual artist and screenwriter); Diana Leblanc (actress and director); Sarah McLachlan (singer-songwriter and humanitarian); R. H. Thomson (actor, director, producer and arts advocate); NAC Award recipient Jean-Marc Vallée (filmmaker); and Michael M. Koerner, C.M., recipient of the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts.
Created in 1992 under the distinguished patronage of the late Right Honourable
Ramon John Hnatyshyn, then Governor General of Canada, these prestigious awards are presented annually to Canadians whose accomplishments have inspired and enriched the cultural life of our country. Nominations for these highly acclaimed awards are submitted by members of the public to recognize artists who have made a lifetime commitment and contribution to the performing arts in Canada.
