Toronto, On – This summer, The Theatre Centre and 6th Man Collective are bringing back the only theatre performance that had audiences cheering and stomping in the stands. Monday Nights, the immersive basketball experience, returns to the Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St. W.) in the midst of the PanAm Games, from July 10 to 26. This follows a highly successful run last fall, which earned the production five Dora Mavor Moore nominations, including Outstanding Production.
In the summer of 2008, five theatre artists – Byron Abalos, Colin Doyle, Darrel Gamotin, Richard Lee and Jeff Yung – came to the basketball court at Queen’s Quay and Bathurst every Monday night and played until the lights turned off. Now the guys are inviting audiences to meet them on the court at The Theatre Centre, and join in their irresistible basketball bromance.
For this iteration of Monday Nights, 6th Man Collective has gone back to the playbook to share new stories that explore their relationship with each other, and the game they all love, on a deeper, more personal level. The result is a production that creates an even stronger connection with the audience – but with all the same basketball fun that audiences loved the first time around. Even those who saw the show last year can join a new team and have a brand new experience.
“Monday Nights is a performance that creates community from beginning to end,” said Franco Boni general & artistic director, The Theatre Centre. “On any given night, no matter who was in the audience, or what team they chose to be on, everyone left feeling like part of a community rooting for one other. We wanted to give 6th Man Collective a second chance to further explore these ideas, and we’re delighted they are bringing us a fresh look at Monday Nights, and can’t wait to share it with audiences old and new.”
Monday Nights can be an interactive or spectator experience. Join the team and show off your best slam dunk, or stay off the court as your team’s “super-fan” cheering them on in the stands – either way, everyone is welcome. Wear your comfy shoes!
Monday Nights will be on stage at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St. W.) July 10 to 26. Performances run Monday and Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees beginning at 2 p.m. The performance is approximately 2 hours with no intermission. Tickets from $17 to $25 are on sale now at The Theatre Centre box office (1115 Queen St. W), online or by phone at 416-538-0988. For more details please visit theatrecentre.org.
