The Bad Dog Theatre Company brings the high-octane action, intensity and deliciously terrible dialogue of the quintessential summer blockbuster from the silver screen to the live stage, completely unscripted. Explosions, car chases, catch phrases and slick moustaches - some of Canada’s funniest improvisers will perform genre-bending cinematic homages August 17 to 22, 2015 at Bad Dog Comedy Theatre.
Festival highlights include:
•Montreal’s Marc Rowlands and Brent Skagford will take Toronto into the danger zone with EASY ACTION. It’s pulse-pounding, edge-of-your seat excitement... all without the use of stunt-doubles, wires, or scripts! Described by Glenn Sumi of NOW Magazine as “...brilliant. Great character, story & physicality.”
•Award-winning Canadian comedy powerhouses Evany Rosen (Picnicface) and Kayla Lorette (The Sufferettes) team up as hard hitting studio execs in Network Notes, taking perfectly acceptable scenes and ripping them to shreds with their particularly delightful (and well-informed) insights and suggestions for “improvement”.
•Fringe darlings Sex T-Rex, grace the stage after their hit show SwordPlay. Capturing all the excitement of a big screen blockbuster they present breathtaking action, bone-crunching fight scenes, and heartbreaking drama, entirely improvised by cast members Conor Bradbury, Kaitlin Morrow, Julian Frid, Josef Addleman and Seann Murray.
•Throne of Games, a hilarious, live, unscripted, award-nominated interpretation of George R.R. Martin’s bestselling medieval fantasy series - Game of Thrones - returns for one night only in an epic sequel episode to its multiple smash-hit runs at Comedy Bar & the 2013 Next Stage Festival, directed by Colin Munch (Punch Up)
•Multi-disciplinary wizard Nick Di Gaetano of Ottawa’s Mi Casa Theatre directs Edge of the Empire, an arctic-themed dieselpunk adventure with humans and puppets
•An all star cast of Toronto’s finest performers including Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), Nicole Dunn (Fake Cops) & Nug Nahrgang (Cannibal) take the stage in Showstopper, the improvised Hollywood musical - while Alice Moran & Kevin Vidal (both of City TV’s Sunnyside) tackle the tropes of Disney musicals in Lost Boys.
•PLUS special Blockbuster editions of Bad Dog’s weekly in-house shows Micetro and Theatresports and the annual Blockbuster favourite: Brodown Throwdown - three improvised movies will begin, but only one will survive to see the end credits… and the audience gets to choose!
