When I was born, my country was not called Israel...
My birth certificate was issued by the acting
British Government of Palestine.
So technically, in that respect, I am Palestinian.
When my mother was born in Haifa,
the same place I was born,
it was part of the Ottoman Empire,
So my mother was technically Turkish.
That's all bullshit.

“What you leave out of the photograph is part of the composition."
Written by Nir Bareket and Governor General's Award nominee Donna-Michelle St. Bernard, 'They Say He Fell' is a memory play about loss, based on Nir’s personal experience surrounding the death of his elder brother during the repartition of British mandatory Palestine.
The story is told through a series of recollections as narrated by the present day character, Nir (aged sixty-eight), who guides the audience through a meditation of mourning in his attempts to reconcile the realities of past events.
