Hot on the heels of its sold-out run of Potosí, Good Old Neon returns with the second play of its inaugural 2015/2016 season, Tennessee Williams' little-known masterpiece, The Two- Character Play. The production is helmed by Amy Keating (Core member, Outside the March, Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play, Passion Play, Mr. Marmalade) in her directorial debut in Toronto, and will be presented as the first show in the Tarragon Theatre's new black box, the Workspace.
The Two-Character Play is an enormous shift from the popular notion of Tennessee Williams' style: featuring a non-linear plot, heavy metatheatrical elements, and a nearly apocalyptic view of human life, the story follows Clare and her brother Felice as they find themselves abandoned by the theatre company of which they were members, alone on an "unknown stage in an unknown state." Desperate, they stage "The Two-Character Play," a half-improvised Beckettian tragedy that calls into serious question what is true and what is illusion, and hints at a profound trauma at the heart of two broken siblings.
The play will feature acclaimed actors Nicole Wilson (Potosí, The Hystericon ̧ Nina in The Seagull - Berkley Street/Chekov Collective) and Matt Pilipiak (Pea Green Theatre's Three Men in a Boat, A Game of Kings, Comedy of Errors and Macbeth - Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan) in a radically and vividly imagined production that will bring Williams' text to dazzling new life in 2016, aided by Dora-nominated and Toronto Theatre Critics Award-winning designer Lindsay Dagger Junkin (Mr. Burns, Stop the World, I Want to Get Off).
Good Old Neon is a Toronto based theatre performance company committee to investigating moral, political, and social paradoxes by integrating avant-garde aesthetics with traditional story telling. Its core members are Alexander Offord (Co-Artistic Director), Nicole Wilson (Co-Artistic Director), and Matt Pilipiak (Artistic Producer).
