Toronto, ON –January 6, 2015: Outlaw Theater Collective announces it’s debut production, Karla and Grif by Vivienne Laxdal, opening January 27th at Unit 102 Theatre.
Karla and Grif, an unlikely pairing resulting in the best of friends until one fateful night when a beautiful moment takes a harrowing turn and thrusts them apart.
Three years later, in grief over the death of her abusive father, Karla finds herself on Grif's doorstep seeking answers. A tale of unrequited love, erotic obsession, false accusations and betrayal we follow Karla as she takes on the people that haunt her in hopes of finally finding closure.
The Outlaws welcome Angela Besharah as Director. Angela has brought 11 plays to life, 7 of which were original productions. The Keeper’s Secret and MAD5/still alive both received 4 star reviews for their festival runs. The Churkendoose broke Fringe box office records and The Way was a Toronto Star "Producer’s Pick.” As an actor Angela also has countless television credits including hit series Bitten and Lost Girl.
Karla and Grif marks the Canadian stage debut of Outlaw co-founders Leigh Bush, Erin Carter, and Mandi Nicholson, all fellow alumni of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. Leigh Bush brings her extensive stage experience with leading roles in Anna Karenina, Marat/Sade, No Exit, and Hamlet - to name a few. Erin Carter is a recent grad of the Canadian Film Centre Actors Conservatory, with theatre credits including leading roles in Steel Magnolias and Into the Woods. She is also set star in the upcoming Jordan Canning Feature Suck it Up. Mandi Nicholson starred as Carlyle in Stonewater Rapture, and most recently played the lead in Canadian/Kenyan feature film Nightrunners.
The Outlaws are also excited to welcome Peter Nelson to the team. Peter has worked on many GTA Theatre productions, most recently, “Frozen”, (not the Disney musical) in which he played a serial killer. His vast TV credits include Mayday and a recurring role in the series Dark Rising.
