From the creators of last season’s smash hit Traces, Montreal’s world-famous circus troupe The 7 Fingers (Les 7 Doigts de la Main) returns to Toronto with their international hit CUISINE & CONFESSIONS, direct from successful runs in Paris, Rome, Moscow, Boston and Switzerland. Presented by David Mirvish, CUISINE & CONFESSIONS plays a strictly limited engagement from November 1 - December 4 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. CUISINE & CONFESSIONS is the first show in the 2016-17 Mirvish Subscription Season.
The 7 Fingers invite all of Toronto into their kitchen for this multi-sensory marvel. Like in Traces, CUISINE & CONFESSIONS showcases their trademark acrobatic choreographic prowess - but this time, adds sound, smell, touch (and taste!) to their always-innovative aesthetic mix.
CUISINE & CONFESSIONS is a theatrical feast - literally. A virtuosic mélange of circus, avant-garde dance, personal narrative, theatre and cooking show, CUISINE & CONFESSIONS explores stories from our family kitchen -- foods prepared, memories made -- and rituals that underpin our most important relationships.
In the words of world-renowned chef Jacques Pepin: “There is something evanescent, temporary, and fragile about food. You make it; it goes, and what remains are memories.”
So sit back, “feed your eyes and mouth - and make sure you don’t try any of this at home,” cheers Time Out (Paris).
“A remarkably familial, interactive ensemble piece. The audience leaves the theatre nibbling the banana bread, happily sniffing the smells of baking as they go, wanting to share Cuisine & Confessions with friends." - Montreal Gazette
CUISINE & CONFESSIONS is directed by founding members Shana Carroll and Sébastien Soldevila and features a cast of international performers that includes Sidney Bateman (United States), Nelson Caillard (France), Melvin Diggs (United States), Mishannock Ferrero (United States/Sweden), Anna Kachalova (Russia), Anna Kichtchenko (Russia), Nella Niva (Finland), Matias Plaul (Argentina) and Pablo Pramparo (Argentina).
ABOUT LES 7 DOIGTS (THE 7 FINGERS)
Les 7 doigts de la main translates literally as "the 7 fingers of the hand". It is a twist on a French idiom ("the five fingers of the hand") used to describe distinct parts united tightly, moving in coordination towards one common goal. Here it refers to the 7 founding directors of the company (Isabelle Chassé, Shana Carroll, Patrick Léonard, Faon Shane, Gypsy Snider, Sébastien Soldevila et Samuel Tétreault) who, by combining their distinct talents and experiences, work towards their common artistic goals with the beautifully awkward dexterity of a 7-fingered hand.
By perpetually blurring artistic boundaries, The 7 Fingers strive to reach the universal, extraordinary, indefinable, visceral and intimate worlds in each human being. Created in 2002 and now made up of 200 artists, administrators and technicians, the collective offers roughly 1,000 performances a year — both artistic collaborations and signature shows. In 2017, The 7 Fingers will inaugurate its own Creation and Production Centre. The centre, based in the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles, will house the collective’s trademark creation and production activities all under one roof.
