The Hamilton Festival Theatre Company (the parent organization for the Hamilton Fringe) announces the lineup for Frost Bites 2017: Hamilton’s only site specific, performance festival featuring 8 unique pieces created by the city’s hottest local performance artists! Partnering with the Art Gallery of Hamilton, one of the oldest public art galleries in Canada, Frost Bites will take over the gallery space for four days (Feb 16-19, 2017) allowing audiences to experience short ‘bites’ of unconventional theatre created in unconventional spaces throughout the building and grounds.
Eight companies chosen from a competitive list of applicants include: 2015 Emerging Artist Award Winner Rose Hopkins (Mooncalf Theatre), contemporary glass artist Teresa Seaton, graduate students from the McMaster theatre program (Sage for the Stage), 2014 Hamilton Fringe Best in Venue winner Ryan Sero (Make Art Theatre), Sector N Collective (John Henry Gerena, Edgardo Moreno and Peter Riddihough who brought us Memory Project at last year’s Frost Bites), Kelly Wolf’s Open Heart (who returns with more historical themed work), Nathalia Bushnik and Robin Ross of Kairos (2016 Hamilton Fringe Critics Choice Awards winners) and Tough Love (Lauren Repei, Laura Ellis). This powerhouse of local talent will heat up the AGH during the coldest month of the year!
The companies will create site-specific performances with each show playing multiple times throughout the evening. Audiences will gather in the AGH Pavilion before and between performances, and be guided to a variety of performance spaces. A single ticket for the event will cost $25 and will grant entry into as many performances as each audience member can manage!
Frost Bites is produced by the Hamilton Fringe Festival in collaboration with members of The ALERT Program (Artistic Leadership and Entrepreneurial Training program) ALERT provides an opportunity for emerging theatre artists to engage in professional training workshops and mentorship sessions over an 8-month period. Both the ALERT Program and Frost Bites are generously supported by the Hamilton Community Foundation.
