When one woman is diagnosed with a debilitating illness, her life swings wildly off-course. Written by Ramona Baillie and directed by Barbara Larose, A Better Place is a play that will delve into your heart, and leave you shaken, emotional, and deeply contemplative.
A Better Place focuses on Stella Russo, a widow who has leapt forward into her new life as a single woman. With her days filled with friends, fun, and laughter, Stella relishes each moment. When she is shaken by a life-altering diagnosis, the path before her is uncertain and unclear. Stella’s struggles will ignite your own visceral reactions: joy and fear, anger and love, denial and acceptance.
A Better Place touches on a theme that is particularly significant in the face of current legislation around physician assisted death and the debate over its effectiveness. Advocacy for compassionate end-of-life choices, legal end-of-life options and the importance of advance care planning are all headline articles in today’s media – A Better Place brings these choices to life on-stage.
“A Better Place touches on a theme that is particularly significant,” explains playwright Ramona Baillie. “Based on real life events, it raises the questions, actions, and consequences we all face...not only about how we choose to live our lives, but also about the right to self-determination.”
Performances run from November 30th through December 11th at Factory Theatre with director Barbara Larose at the helm and boasting a stellar cast featuring Kris Langille, Catherine Gardner, Rachel Cairns, Jillian Rees-Brown, Edward Heeley, Ian Ronningen, Ngabo Nabea and Isai Rivera Blas.
