Generator is back at Massey Hall on November 12th. Having been to the Arctic for an off-shoot digital event, Chris Hadfield’s flagship show has returned to Toronto as the city’s stage for unique scientists, entertainers and creators from across the globe. The former astronaut has brought together creators/innovators/performers from the UK, Rwanda, the Netherlands, Spain, the US and Canada to provide an evening of future-focused thought and entertainment. Produced in conjunction with his son’s Toronto-based creative agency launch*pad, Generator aims to provide a sturdy platform for up and coming local talent, highlighting Canadians with overwhelming skill and underwhelming public profile, as well as providing unique international figures a place within Canada to tell their stories.
Last year saw spoken word, exoskeletons, space oddity and chicken gyroscopes. This year aims even higher. Tickets will sell out. In the interest of keeping the night a pleasant surprise, much of the line-up will not introduced before the curtain opens. Of more than a dozen presenters, it has been released that Chris will be joined on stage by Mythbuster Adam Savage, the world’s first legally recognized cyborg, Neil Harbisson, the inventor who might save the oceans, Boyan Slat, together with returning guests Tupperware Remix Party and host/comedian Robin Ince and many others including a major surprise.
“Generator is aimed at not just witnessing amazing things, but inspiring people to achieve their own actions,” said Hadfield, “If we provide a space for people to see, think and act within their own city, they will remain there when they start to do it themselves. Toronto is blossoming, and through this show we aim to create another flower.”
“If you want people to be interested in something, you need to make it interesting” added Evan Hadfield, managing partner at launch*pad, “there is no question that Generator will provide something missing from the cultural landscape of Toronto - an annual event where people can not only find their new favourite international artists, but ideas, as well.”
The November 12th event takes place in Massey Hall and starts at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, please visit www.masseyhall.com/eventdetail/ChrisHadfieldGenerator or www.generatorevent.com.
