Shelf Life, the first production of our ongoing InterGEN Project premieres next Wednesday, November 30th at the Tarragon Theatre Extraspace! The play, exploring the stories of youth and seniors living in Toronto, will run Nov 30 – Dec 4.
With teenage Ashley not speaking to mom, Devon obsessed with saving up for his first car, and grandma Cora feeling stifled by her daughter’s overprotectiveness, how can the Muncie family learn to communicate again and find mobility when both generations of seniors and youth feel caged and powerless within their circumstances.
Through the InterGEN Project, Mixed Company bridges the gap between older adults and youth. Designed to increase understanding between older Torontonians and teenagers, the project breaks down intergenerational barriers by sensitizing both groups to the issues, realities, and concerns they have in common as well as those which potentially cause conflict. This project encourages social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement as the audience is moved to offer alternative, positive options to the negative situations presented.
