Cineplex Events brings a critically acclaimed new performance of Kaija Saariaho's haunting L'Amour de Loin live from New York City's Metropolitan Opera to the big screen. Directed by renowned Canadian playwright, actor and director, Robert Lepage, you won't want to miss this latest masterpiece in theatres on December 10 at 12:55 p.m. ET.
Commissioned by the Salzburg Festival in 2000, and winner of the prestigious Grawemeyer Award for Musical Composition in 2003, Saariaho's breakthrough opera was described by the New York Times as "transfixing...a lushly beautiful score."
L'Amour de Loin ("Love from Afar") is an enthralling story that explores the archetypal themes of love and death that have forever been at the very core of opera. It will now finally have its Metropolitan Opera premiere featuring glimmering ribbons of LED lights that extend across the length of the stage and over the orchestra pit. Eric Owens is the knight on a quest of love and Susanna Phillips is his lover on the other side of the sea. Conductor Susanna Mällki makers her Met debut.
L'Amour de Loin will be in French with English subtitles. It will be playing live at Cineplex theatres across Canada on December 10th at 12:55 p.m. ET with encore shows on February 4, 6 and 8, 2017. For theatre locations and showtimes, visit Cineplex.com.
