Tapestry Opera is proud to announce the appointment of Jaime Martino as the company’s new General Manager. Following four years as Director of Operations for Pride Toronto, Martino will join Tapestry on Nov. 24, 2016.
“Jaime is a game-changer for our company,” says Michael Mori, Artistic Director. “She clearly shares Tapestry’s principle that contemporary opera is a vital and growing contributor in the Canadian artistic landscape, and believes in the arts’ crucial role in stimulating conversation around key issues and social change. She also brings a new, proven perspective and experience in enacting that change both on the ground level and at a large scale, which I believe will help bring the company to the next phase. Toronto is ready for this.”
Martino is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and the University of Otago, New Zealand and has pursued a career in dance that has taken her across the world. Since 2013 she has served as Director of Operations for Pride Toronto, steering one of the largest LGBTQ celebrations in the world, with over 1.5 million attendees every year. In 2014 she was officially recognized by the City of Toronto for her contribution to WorldPride, praised as a “historic and overwhelming success.”
Martino is preceded by Katie Pounder, who held this position from September 2014 to May 2016, and by Paula Forst, who has acted as Interim General Manager since May 2016.
Also joining the Tapestry Opera staff is Linda Rogers, Manager of External Relations. Rogers is a seasoned arts manager who has held senior positions at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Ontario, Soundstreams Canada, Toronto Philharmonia, Puppetmongers Theatre, and most recently at VIBE Arts (formerly “Arts for Children and Youth”).
