Richard Rose, Artistic Director of Tarragon Theatre, is excited to announce the return of smash hit Infinity. The piece, written by Canadian theatre sensation and Windham-Campbell Literature Prize winner Hannah Moscovitch, and directed by two-time Siminovitch Award finalist Ross Manson (Volcano Theatre), returns to Tarragon after its world premiere in the 2014/15 season. Infinity, co-produced by Volcano Theatre, runs January 4 - 29, 2017 (opening January 4) in the Extraspace.
How does a new Theory of Time change everything we know about ourselves? Three brilliant minds – a musician, a mathematician, and a theoretical physicist – smash together like colliding particles in an accelerator. Together they learn that love and time are connected in ways they couldn’t have imagined. Infinity is a shocking, funny and revelatory play about love, sex, and math by Tarragon Playwright-in-Residence Hannah Moscovitch developed with Volcano Theatre. Back by popular demand from Tarragon’s 2014/15 season.
Written during her time as Tarragon’s playwright-in-residence, Moscovitch’s Infinity resonated with audiences throughout Toronto when it debuted as part of the 2014/15 season. Infinity proves relatable and thought provoking as characters get to the emotional core of issues of love, sex, family and math in a postmodern, millennial culture.
This remount of Infinity features returning performances by Amy Rutherford (Tarragon/ Volcano’s Goodness, Global’s “Remedy”), Paul Braunstein (Tarragon’s Kilt) and celebrated violinist Andrea Tyniec who will be playing a 1689 baumgartner stradivarius valued at $5.5 million, joined by Vivien Endicott-Douglas (Tarragon’s The Circle).
“She [Moscovtich] often describes the play as the most personal piece of writing she’s ever done and that, more than anything else, is what makes the play so utterly captivating,” notes Ross Manson, “With Infinity’s subject matter and presence of music, it operates equally on the right brain and left brain of the audience. So an audience member might reflect on their enjoyment of the play immediately after seeing it, but it also sticks with them, puzzling and compelling their brains long after the show.”
Infinity is on tour with Volcano Theatre throughout southern Ontario in February and March 2017. For more information on Infinity’s Ontario tour please visit www.volcano.ca/on-tour.
