After celebrating a fabulous opening to our 2016 World Stage season, we're keeping the momentum going this February with an energetic, politically charged take on a traditional folk dance.
A co-production from Belgium and Palestine, Badke infuses the Arabic dance dabke with contemporary elements of hip hop, circus and capoeira, and depicts a moving story about the universal desire to belong using the language of dance. This group of dancers, some from refugee camps and without any formal training, has found new ways to bring dynamic vocabularies and ideas to a traditional form of dance on stage. Badke is a joyous triumph, both technically and in the realities of assembling the production. Don't miss our vibrant first dance performance of the season, February 17–20.
Badke is a co-production between the prolific and groundbreaking KVS (the Brussels City Theatre), les ballets C de la B and the A.M. Qattan Foundation. Koen Augustijnen returns to World Stage after his praised involvement with Gudirr Gudirr and les ballets C de la B's Out of Context – for Pina.
