In a future-Toronto, an oppressive regime imagines that they have built a utopia, and it falls to our young heroes to stand up to them and fight for a better way of life. Inspired by the tropes of dystopian teen fiction (Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Divergent) as well as familiar haunts from present-day Toronto, this unscripted comedy teams a cast of intrepid teen improvisers with adult members of Bad Dog's professional company to fight for the future. Suggestions from the audience shape how our teen heroes imagine this future-Toronto, allowing them to populate this dystopia with original characters and lay the groundwork for an improvised coming-of-age story. Will our young hero fall in love at the ruins of the CN Tower? Will our heroine be able to fight off the rogue market gangs of Kensington? In each show, the cast will improvise a new battle against these oppressive forces to build a better future.
“The chance to work with teens and adults in a mixed cast is hugely unique, and the chance to direct a piece that can be equal parts comedy and theatre is an amazing opportunity for any improviser.” says director Nicole Passmore “The Toronto comedy community has so many talented performers, but they aren't only adults. This show features heavyhitting players from the Bad Dog Theatre Company, joined by some of the top talent from Bad Dog's youth program, the Canadian Improv Games, and Toronto high schools. This show is a perfect opportunity to bridge the gap between different generations of improvisers, and play the genre in a more genuine way. Why have just funny, skilled adults or hilarious, talented teens when you can have a show with both?”
Starring: Ify Chiwetelu (Bad Dog Featured Players), Ashley Comeau (Second City), Nadine Djoury (The Weaker Vessels), Nigel Downer (Toronto, I Love You), Liz Johnston (D&D Live), Christian Smith (Showlo), Marcel St. Pierre (Egg Zeppelin) & Kevin Vidal (Sunny Side) with music by Nick Di Gaetano (Mi Casa Theatre)
