Theatre Education Program
All courses will take place at the The Collingwood Library. Courses will be instructed by Mr. Cam Oates, Theatre Collingwood’s Director of Theatre Education. To register call 705-445-2200 or visit our Box Office at 65 Simcoe Street, Collingwood. Application forms must be completed and submitted with full payment prior to the start of classes.
The Young Actor’s Company

•15 Student Maximum
•8 Weeks (8 classes total)
•Mondays 4:00pm – 5:30pm (Session 2)
•$175 + HST per student

Program Description:
This program is meant as an introductory program to Performance Art. Students will take part in games and activities geared towards enhancing their performance skills and focusing their energy. Role-playing and expression are a primary focus of the program, while it also incorporates song and dance. This process culminates with a public performance after the last class.
Cam Oates – Theatre Collingwood’s Director of Theatre Education
Cam Oates has been a drama teacher since 2008. He has built his career working with youth in the dramatic community for over 10 years, as well as working as a youth facilitator and mentor for close to 15 years.
Cam’s acting credits include: Seussical the Musical (Cat), HMS Pinafore (chorus), Aida (chorus), Guys and Dolls (Sky), West Side Story (Snow Boy), and Much Ado About Nothing (Borachio, understudy Leonato). His directing credentials are equally extensive, and include productions such as Teen Aging, Balloon, A Typically Atypical Day, Still Alarm, Craig’s List, and Pullman Car Hiawatha. Additionally, Cam was the recipient of an award for Excellence in Education from his school board during his 5th year of teaching. An experienced dancer, Cam spent three years as the director and choreographer of a Glee Club as well as four years as a member of the Windsor Dance Experience.
As a part of the Stratford Festival Education Department Cam has had extensive exposure and training, becoming proficient in the areas of script analysis, stage combat, voice, movement, scene study, classical study, and dance. A leader in communal initiatives, Cam has developed a reputation as a Theatrical Educator and promoter within the Stratford community.
Cam has embraced his new hometown, and since relocating to Collingwood has choreographed and assistant directed Collingwood Collegiate Institute’s production of Annie: The Musical. Cam is deeply passionate about the Performance Arts and believes they are wonderful outlet for expression and personal growth. He is excited to be working with Theatre Collingwood to promote the idea that theatre has the potential to bring the community together in a rare and celebratory way.
