Toronto, ON – Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) will be producing the world premiere of TPM Resident Playwright Jordi Mand’s newest play Caught, with a multi-award-winning-and-nominated team. Starring Dora Mavor Moore Award-nominated actors Jakob Ehman (Nature of the Beast, Donors, Minotaur), Meegwun Fairbrother (The Great Mountain), and Sabryn Rock (Once On This Island, Caroline, Or Change), and directed by National Arts Centre, English Theatre Associate Artistic Director Sarah Garton Stanley, Caught will be in the TPM Backspace (16 Ryerson Ave. Toronto) from March 31 – April 24, 2016.
“We are basically just destroying each other.”
A teenager is held in a department store security holding room by the female security guard who caught him shoplifting. As he tries to lure her into dropping the charges, they find themselves unexpectedly intertwined. When the police officer arrives to process the case, the tables are turned and keep on spinning.
Caught explores questions around entitlement, blame, consequence and justice. It focuses on human interactions and the various ways we hurt both one another and ourselves.
Jordi Mand is a Resident Playwright with Theatre Passe Muraille and her recent successful play, Between the Sheets, has been produced across the country and abroad.
“I am thrilled to have my latest play Caught premiere at Theatre Passe Muraille. Early drafts of the play were workshopped through TPM’s BUZZ Series and I can’t wait to share the final product with audiences this spring.” – Jordi Mand, Playwright.
The development of Caught was also supported, in part, through The Collaborations, an initiative of the National Arts Centre, English Theatre.
Theatre Passe Muraille gratefully acknowledges and celebrates the ongoing support of their annual Season Sponsor BMO Financial Group and their 2015.16 Accessibility Sponsor TD Bank Group.
