What are the ripples that follow after a tragedy? How is a community affected by loss? Who benefits from murder? True Blue is a fully improvised police drama about family, lies and loss set in rural Ontario. Though inspired by atmospheric police procedurals such as True Detective, The Fall, Top of the Lake and Broadchurch, each episode of True Blue is a standalone mystery.
A departure from Bad Dog Theatre’s comedic offerings, director Colin Munch has chosen to pursue a darker, more dramatic tone with True Blue. From the discovery of the crime scene to the unravelling of alibis, loyalties are tested and evidence is gathered in a spontaneously crafted thriller - as much a character study of two detectives as of the town they are charged with protecting.
“It's a show I've been dreaming of for as long as I've been working for the company and now, with our own theatre in full stride and after years of personally producing, directing, and appearing in high quality unscripted comedies like Toronto, I Love You and The PATH, the time is perfect to launch this ambitious new project.” says Munch, “With a dream creative team I can't wait to have audiences join us in exploring what improv can be.”
Directed by Colin Munch and featuring: Amy Matysio (Wolf Cop, Soulpepper), Anand Rajaram (Mustard -Tarragon Theatre), Aurora Browne (Trudeau & Levesque - Video Cabaret), Kevin Vidal (Sunnyside, Second City mainstage), Danny Pagett (Theatre Brouhaha), Paloma Nuñez (Chile Con Carne - Theatre Alameda), Shanda Bezic (Rookie Blue, Flashpoint), Jocelyn Geddie (The Sketchersons) & music by Nick DiGaetano (Toronto, I Love You - Bad Dog Theatre).
Produced with the support of the Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund For the Arts.
