Toronto, ON – March 29, 2016: Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced new details about Soulpepper’s 2016 Concert Series, and new Cabarets.
Each original Soulpepper Concert revolves around a time, place, or artist, crafted by a team of incomparable performers. Taking the A Train Downtown Manhattan — The Melting Pot, directed by writer and host Albert Schultz with Slaight Family Director of Music Mike Ross, explores the history and culture of the original neighbourhoods of New York with Stephanie Cadman, Cassius Crieghtney, Hailey Gillis, Steve Hunter, Travis Knights, Andrew Pacheco, Andrew Penner, Jacob Gorzhaltsan, Lowell Whitty, and jazz legend Jackie Richardson. This original concert encapsulates stories of immigration, innovation, vaudeville, organized crime and the birth of American song.
Taking the A Train Downtown Manhattan — The Melting Pot takes place at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts on April 2 at 7:30 p.m., April 8 at 7:30 p.m., April 9 at 1:30 p.m. and April 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $25.
Previously announced concerts in the Series include: The Voyager Golden Records (June 9, 10, 15), The Canadian Pacific Railway (June 16, 23, 25) and Taking the A Train Uptown Manhattan — Harlem (August 26, September 2, 3).

Also on stage as part of Soulpepper’s music programming in Toronto, Soulpepper’s Cabaret Series is composed of intimate musical showcases from established feature artists, fresh and exciting talent, as well as intimate groupings of artists from Toronto’s diverse musical community. Upcoming Cabarets include:
•April 9: Different Shades of Blue from contemporary jazz sextet Kalabash, hosted by Colleen Allen
•April 23: Returning by popular demand, The Polka Dogs Play Hank Williams
•April 30: The Bryce Kulak Spring Fling: Kulak’s newest revue, with music from The Man That Got Away & original stage works
•May 7: Jazz arrangements of Ravel, Purcell, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, and Joni Mitchell from internationally celebrated jazz vocalist, composer and recording artist Lara Solnicki
•May 14: The Ward: Songs and Sounds of a Lost Toronto Neighbourhood from David Buchbinder, Andrew Craig and Michael Occhipinti
All Soulpepper Cabarets start at 8:30 p.m. and tickets start at $25 ($20 for students).

Tickets for Soulpepper Concerts & Cabarets start at $25; Cabaret tickets are $20 for students. $25 tickets for Soulpepper productions are also available for 21-30 year-olds at stageplay.ca. StagePlay is sponsored by TD Bank Group. The $25 Rush Ticket / $5 Youth Rush program is sponsored by Sun Life Financial. Ticket prices include a Young Centre facility fee, service charge and HST. Pricing is subject to change.
