Rehearsals are underway for Filament Incubator's world premiere of Lemon, written and directed by Andrew Markowiak, and for Danny Ghantous - fresh from Factory Theatre's run of A Line in the Sand - it will mark his first play out of school. The cast is rounded out by recent York University graduate Julia Hussey, and George Brown alumnus LeeAnn Ball. The show runs as part of Filament Incubator’s eight play season, from May 25th- June 5th at the Majlis Art Garden on 163 Walnut Avenue, Toronto.
Desperate to retain her potential after courting a barren, post-college job market, Liz opens a lemonade stand on her parents' front lawn. It wouldn't be so bad, if her high school fling wasn't determined to rekindle feelings between them, and her eight-year-old competition wasn't willing to go to any length to ensure her downfall. A biting satire of a downtrodden economy, Lemon is a tale of dog-eat-dog-eat-dog.
Danny Ghantous is a recent graduate of Ryerson University’s Performance Acting program, and recently starred as Sadiq in Factory Theatre’s acclaimed production of A Line in the Sand directed by Nigel Shawn Williams.
Julia Hussey is a Fredericton, New Brunswick native and a recent graduate of York University’s Acting Conservatory program. She recently appeared in Let's Talk About (OSDPT) and Orpheus and Eurydice (Theatre TOnight).
LeeAnn Ball is from Scarborough, Ontario and is a graduate of the George Brown Theatre School. Select credits include: An Ideal Husband (GBTS), The Munsch Bunch (GBTS), Breaking Away, Just Look (YPT) and Solferino (3PT).
Andrew Markowiak is an actor, writer, director, and deviser. He was most recently seen on stage as Rick in Aaron Jan’s original comedy, Rowing, and the North American premiere of Philip Ridley's Mercury Fur (Seven Siblings Theatre). Television appearances include Man Seeking Woman (FXX), Close Encounters (Discovery Channel) and Last Seen Alive (Investigation Discovery).

FILAMENT INCUBATOR was founded with the express intent to be a launching pad for underproduced and underrepresented emerging artists, programming them on a consistent, monthly basis in the Queen West Area. “Lemon” is the second play in the Incubator's inaugural season, beginning a commitment to produce 8 original plays in the remaining 8 months of 2016, including a new devised theatre creation by Raw Matter Project in September, queer ghost stories Tire Swing by Curtis te Brinke and Swan by Aaron Jan in October, and dark coming of age fable Paradise Comics by Caitie Graham in November. The Incubator is the collective brainchild of Daniel Bagg, Aaron Jan, Andrew Markowiak, and Zach Parkhurst.
