April 28, 2016… The Stratford Festival has added performances of two productions to meet the demand for tickets. Three additional performances have been scheduled for both The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Aeneid.
“It’s very encouraging to see such strong demand for tickets,” says Executive Director Anita Gaffney, “especially at this time of year when everyone is hard at work getting the shows ready for our audiences. Our sensational production of A Chorus Line hit the stage last week with the first preview of the season winning fantastic response from our patrons, and – with advance sales going as well as they are – we feel we are out of the gate on a very positive note.”
The Aeneid, a contemporary drama by Quebec playwright Olivier Kemeid that echoes Virgil’s famous epic poem, tells a gripping story ripe for our time. Translated from the original French by Maureen Labonté and directed by Keira Loughran, this heroic tale of survival follows a band of refugees as they flee their devastated city and embark on a perilous quest for a new country to call home.
“It is no wonder that The Aeneid has captured the attention of our patrons,” says Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino. “It is a story that could have been pulled from the headlines and offers a window into the refugee experience that I hope will raise the tenor of discussion on one of the most important issues of our day.”
Performances of The Aeneid have been added as follows:
• Wednesday, September 28, at 2 p.m.
• Saturday, October 1, at 2 p.m.
• Tuesday, October 4, at 2 p.m.
C.S. Lewis’s timeless classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, dramatized by Adrian Mitchell, follows the fantastic adventures of four children sent from their home in wartime London to live at a professor’s house in the British countryside. Inspired by wonder, the siblings travel through a wardrobe to the land of Narnia to fulfill their destiny. The creative team, led by Director Tim Carroll, has created a truly enchanting world, certain to thrill audiences of all ages.
Performances of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe have been added on the following dates:
• Thursday, May 19, at 2 p.m.
• Tuesday, June 14, at 2 p.m.
• Friday, October 21, at 2 p.m.
