Toronto, 16 May 2016…Two of the greatest cities in the world – Paris and New York – have inspired some of the greatest melodies ever heard in music theatre across the globe. TOT builds a musical bridge between these two cities for an afternoon of unparalleled entertainment. In doing so, we also celebrate Father’s Day...all this on Sunday, June 19th at 3 pm with PARIS ON BROADWAY. Toronto Operetta Theatre presents a musical treat on this special day that honours fathers and introduces the company’s 2016-2017 Season. “This will be a great way to conclude our amazing 2015/2016 season and give our patrons a preview of the coming season!” noted TOT’s General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin.
The city of Paris has inspired the giants of Broadway including Cole Porter, Lerner & Loewe, Victor Herbert, Sigmund Romberg and even Leonard Bernstein. Let’s not forget Andrew Lloyd Webber and Claude-Michel Schönberg, and their two mega-musicals. And of course Monsieur Offenbach helped spread the fame of the city on the Seine! Music theatre fans can’t get enough of their melodies and highlights from shows such as GIGI, LA VIE PARISIENNE, ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD, CAN-CAN and NEW MOON will be front and centre. And irresistible tunes such as I Love Paris, C’est Magnifique, Glitter and be Gay, The Merry Widow Waltz, Gigi and the ravishing songs of Edit Piaf are heard round the world wherever people sing, dance and fall in love!
Our splendid cast includes many TOT favourites. We welcome the return of two of our LADY IN THE DARK stars, Elizabeth Beeler and Curtis Sullivan, and from our recent production of THE STUDENT PRINCE, Jennifer Taverner. Vania Chan was heard in LAND OF SMILES, Michael Nyby charmed patrons in THE COUSIN FROM NOWHERE and baritone Dion Mazerolle will add Gallic flair in his TOT debut. TOT’s own Guillermo Silva-Marin, hailed for his role in LOS GAVILANES, will be on hand as host, baritone and boulevardier for PARIS ON BROADWAY.
