We are very excited to announce our biggest production of 2016, a first for our group, and a first for the area. SALT WATER MOON will make its professional debut in Hastings County from July 20th to 24th at the Marble Arts Centre in Tweed. This show marks the first fully produced PLAY that our company will present (That is, not a musical) although the show will feature some stunning new instrumentations being created by the Tweed and Company ensemble. The show is Canadas most produced and most successful play, and has seen incredibly successful productions across the country and around the world, including a run right now at the Factory theatre in Toronto.
The play takes place in Newfoundland. Its a splendid moon-filled night in Coleys Point in 1926. Eighteen-year-old Jacob Mercer has returned from Toronto to this tiny Newfoundland outport, hoping to win back his former sweetheart, Mary Snow. But Mary has become engaged to wealthy Jerome McKenzie, and she is still hurt and bewildered by Jacobs abrupt departure a year earlier. She will not be easily wooed
Salt-Water Moon won the 1985 Canadian Authors Association Literary Award for Drama, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play, the Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics Award, and was a finalist for the 1985 Governor-Generals Award for Drama.
Salt Water Moon is sure to delight all audiences, and is a massive step in Tweed & Companys progression into a successful year round professional theatre company. We are overjoyed to be presenting this Canadian classic at the ideal venue for this show, the Marble Arts Centre.
