Toronto, ON – May 3, 2016: Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced casting details for May and June artistic programming including The Odd Couple, The Testament of Mary, The Heidi Chronicles, and Incident at Vichy.
New May programming starts with the return of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple on May 5 with Albert Schultz and Soulpepper Founding Member & Drummond-Dorrance Artistic Fellow Diego Matamoros revisiting their roles as dueling roommates Oscar and Felix, directed by Soulpepper Founding Member Stuart Hughes.
Soulpepper’s third Studio Series show of 2016 is The Testament of Mary, on stage May 6, featuring Soulpepper Founding Member Nancy Palk, directed by Aaron Willis. Based on the novel and play by award-winning writer Colm Tóibín, this moving solo show provides a humanizing and reverent take on one of the world’s most iconic figures.
Mainstage May programming continues with The Heidi Chronicles – Wendy Wasserstein’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning comedy with Michelle Monteith in the title role and Resident Artist Gregory Prest directing, and Arthur Miller’s ensemble WWII drama Incident at Vichy directed by Soulpepper Associate Artistic Director and Drummond-Dorrance Artistic Fellow Alan Dilworth.
Also at the Young Centre this May: the previously announced Tiger Bamboo, a free Festival celebrating Asian Heritage Month with theatrical presentations, readings, and cabarets on May 28 and 29. VideoCabaret’s The Great War continues until May 14.

Neil Simon’s legendary exploration of the relationship between fastidious Felix and his sloppy roommate Oscar is one of the most iconic and enduring pieces of 20th-century American comedy. Founding Member Diego Matamoros and Artistic Director Albert Schultz reprise the title roles as the suddenly single pals who become roommates with hilariously disastrous results. The cast: Derek Boyes; Kevin Bundy; Oliver Dennis; Raquel Duffy; John Jarvis; Soulpepper Founding Member Diego Matamoros; Albert Schultz; and Sarah Wilson.

The Heidi Chronicles

Wendy Wasserstein’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning comedy follows one woman from a 1960’s teen to 1980’s career woman, with all of the touching and heartbreaking moments in between. A sharp-eyed and personal look at feminism, friendship, and social change, The Heidi Chronicles explores the notion of “having it all.” The cast includes Damien Atkins; Laura Condlln; Raquel Duffy; Michelle Monteith; Jordan Pettle; Paolo Santalucia; Sophia Walker and Sarah Wilson.
May 16 to June 18. Opening night is May 24.
Incident at Vichy

In this taut historical drama by American master Arthur Miller, eight men are sequestered in a room in Vichy France, 1940, by local authorities in aid of the Nazis. None are told why they are held, or when they can leave. As each man is removed for interrogation, some are set free, some are never heard from again, and the stakes rise for those who remain. The ensemble: Soulpepper Founding Members Stuart Hughes, Diego Matamoros and William Webster; Kawa Ada; Kevin Bundy; Oliver Dennis; Tony DeSantis; Meegwun Fairbrother; Peter Fernandes; Gordon Hecht; John Jarvis; Richard Lam; Courtney Ch’ng Lancaster; Roy Lewis; Robert Nasmith; Colin Palangio; Alex Poch-Goldin; Marcel Stewart; and Brendan Wall.

In this challenging and imaginative solo play featuring Soulpepper Founding Member Nancy Palk, acclaimed author Colm Tóibín paints a breathtakingly intimate, raw and humanizing depiction of one of the most beloved figures in history. Riveting and lyrical, The Testament of Mary reimagines the last days of Jesus as only a mother can.
May 6 to June 18. Opening night is May 17.

Soulpepper’s Cabaret Series performances are intimate musical showcases featuring fresh and exciting talent, as well as intimate groupings of artists from Toronto’s diverse musical community.
