June 6, 2016, Ottawa – The Great Canadian Theatre Company announced today that it is continuing its track record of collaboration by establishing a partnership with PAL Ottawa. For PAL Ottawa members, GCTC will be offering a special ticket discount that helps make theatre accessible for the many members of the artistic community living on a fixed income. PAL Ottawa members can purchase a discounted ticket for $20 by simply by using their PAL membership card in person or over the phone. Tickets are valid for any performance part of GCTC’s 2016-17 season.
In 2016, GCTC established a new strategic plan that guides its objectives and operations for the next three years. Integral parts of that strategic plan focus heavily on reaching out to new artistic communities, community groups, and developing new organizational partnerships. Working with PAL Ottawa in this capacity fulfills all three of those objectives. GCTC Managing Director Hugh Neilson calls for other arts organizations to follow their lead. “We’re proud to partner in this initiative with PAL and encourage other organizations in the city to participate in a similar way. It is important that we support those individuals who have helped to strengthen our sector over the years and to ensure that cost is not a barrier to continued participation.”
PAL Ottawa is a unique resource for arts professionals in all disciplines who, due to age-related challenges, disability, and/or low income, struggle to maintain a decent standard of living in their senior years. “We at PAL Ottawa are thrilled to have this tremendous support of GCTC in building interest in PAL Ottawa's quest to care for aging artists, through Supporting Cast, and ultimately in a building to ease the plight of artists living under financial strain,” says Peter Haworth, Chair of PAL Ottawa. “We look forward to making this initiative one that all Ottawa arts groups want to join!”
