73H Productions with the support of The Howland Company has announced details for their upcoming production of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, presented as part of the company’s 2016 Summer Season following the remount of their three-time sold-out hit 52 Pick-Up. The production will run from Wednesday August 31 to Saturday September 10 at 8pm, with a 2pm Matinee on Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11 at The Theatre Centre Incubator.
Led by innovative director Philip McKee (Bloody Family, LEAR), this intimate production offers a bold and timely look at one of the 20th century’s greatest plays.
The Wingfield Family, confined to a tiny St. Louis apartment on the eve of the Second World War, struggle to find hope and beauty amid the rough circumstances that surround them. A visit from a Gentleman Caller offers the possibility for a new beginning or threatens to destroy everything they’ve built.
The production will feature a cast of Canadian talent from theatre, television and improv: James Graham (Mockingbird, King John, NSFW), Tracey Hoyt (Face Value, Suits, The Drowsey Chaperone), Samer Salem (Conviction, Man Seeking Woman, Diagnosis Unknown), and Hannah Spear (Trout Stanley, Arcadia, Bad Dog Repertory Players).
“At its core, The Glass Menagerie presents a choice between the pursuit of the ideal self and the need to confront the very real circumstances that surround us. In our current political climate, this conflict once again feels dangerously present. It has brought the play a new, unexpected edge and we hope that the intimacy of The Theatre Centre Incubator will bring the audience right into the heart of that struggle" – Philip McKee, Director
